Lyn Laver-Ahmat is a Mackay, Queensland-based artist. Now that she has retired from her role as a secondary school art teacher, she now has more time to devote to her passion for art making. She enjoys painting on location in the landscape and uses these studies to develop the works into more complex paintings back in her home studio.

Painting is a medium through which she can express her inner response about feelings for nature as well as her concerns for the natural environment. Her present work focuses mainly on the semi-abstracted landscape, and she find inspiration from its many moods as well as the beauty of light and how it defines the surface of land, sky, or water.

Lyn uses a variety of techniques and materials in mixed-media, oil and acrylic, as well as ceramics. She strives to keep a sense of rhythm and energy in her work with attention to colour, space and texture. Lyn also enjoys the painterly process of building up marks and transparent glazes that may evoke a sense of mystery and intrigue.
